Access between the Tow Path and the Moulin de Thuboeuf :
The Tow Path is on the right bank. If the river is on your left, you are going downstream i.e. (in the direction of flow) and are heading
South from Laval towards Chateau-Gontier. If the river is on your right, you are headed upstream (against the flow) and are heading North from
Chateau-Gontier towards Laval.
Access to the Moulin de Thuboeuf is (a) from the Lock of Port Ringeard or (b) between the Lock of Persigand.
The most practical route with bicycles (particularly touring bicycles) or in winter is to use the access at the Lock at Port Ringeard
(« Ecluse de Port Ringeard ») next to the Abbaye du Port du Salut.
From the Tow Path to the Moulin de Thuboeuf :
From the South (i.e. river on your left, heading upstream from Château-Gontier towards Laval):
- 1. At « La Jarette », which is just after crossing a small bridge on the river Vicoin, take the little road on the left sign-posted towards
Régereau Take the path to the right which rises up a (quite) steep hill toward the Clos du Chêne. Turn left at « La Pélardière » and cross the
road (the D112). Immediately opposite the farm « La Pommeraie » is a path which descends down to the Vicoin river. Just before the bridge over
the Vicoin, on the right, is the entrance to the Moulin de Thuboeuf. Note : This path is extremely muddy and slippery in winter.
- 2. This is longer, but easier than the first option. Keep on the towpath until you reach the D112. Turn left and after 150-200 metres and turn
right at Moulin de Régereau. Continue until the crossroads at La Volue, turn right and go up the hill until the Château de Marthebise. Pass
the château on your right, and at the next crossroads (a T junction), take the right hand fork towards La Bouge and continue until you find a
track on your right which heads towards Thuboeuf. Go past la Perrine, le Gravichet et la Sévrie. Immediately after a bridge over the Vicoin river,
on the left, is the entrance to the Moulin de Thuboeuf. Note: if you towards Beau-Séjour, the descent towards le Gravichet is steep even for
bicycles.
- 3. Continue to Persigand. Just after the bridge, take the road to the right which ascends to the D112. Turn left, go up the hill and take the
first road on the right as you start to go down a hill where opposite the farm « La Pommeraie » is a path which descends down to the Vicoin river.
Just before the bridge over the Vicoin, on the left, is the entrance to the Moulin de Thuboeuf. Note : This path is extremely muddy and slippery in
winter.
From the North (i.e. river on your left, heading downstream from Laval towards Château-Gontier) :
At the Lock of
Persigand, just after the bridge, take the road to the right which ascends to the
D112. Turn left, go up the hill and take the
first road (a track) on the right as you start to go down the hill (opposite «
La Pommeraie ») which descends down to the Vicoin river. Just before
the bridge over the Vicoin, on the right, is the entrance to the Moulin de Thuboeuf.
Note : This path is extremely muddy and slippery in winter.
From the Moulin de Thuboeuf to the Tow Path :
2 options :
- 1. Turn left at the entrance to the Moulin and go past the farm. Just after, take the track to the right (the one to the rleft goes to farm fields)
until you reach the D112 where on the immediately opposite of the road, on the same side as « La Pommeraie » is a path towards “La Pelardière.” At
the end of the path, turn right up the little road which goes down to Régereau. When this road becomes a track, you will notice a turning to the
left. Either take this track towards Tertre de Jarette passing this property along a stony and difficult path, or continue straight on until Régereau.
Both routes take you to a small path where you turn left towards the tow path.
- 2. Turn right at the entrance to the Moulin, go over the bridge and up the hill passing La Sévrie, Le Gravichet, La Perrine and where the road starts
to go downhill, is a bike track. Turn left on this track (away from Moulin de la Roche) and at the end of the path, pass in front of La Bouge and continue
until a Y-junction with a small tree to the right. Take the left towards the Château de Mathebise which you pass on your left and go down until you reach
the D112 opposite the Moulin de Régereau. Turn left and to 200 metres on the D112 and turn right along the little road which will take you to Jarette and
the tow path. This option is further but a little easier and more practical especially in winter.
The most practical route with bicycles (particularly touring bicycles) or in winter is to go to the Lock at Port Ringeard (Ecluse de Port Ringeard)
next to the Abbaye du Port du Salut. Go up the hill on the D103 on the right bank (same side as the tow path and opposite the Abbey) and follow the
signs to the Moulin de Thuboeuf which is signposted from the first roundabout at the top of the hill (second exit towards Nuillé-sur-Vicoin).
